Democrats' counteroffer included rules on body cameras and training, source says
A Democratic source familiar with the matter told CBS News the party's counteroffer to reopen the Department of Homeland Security — which Republicans rejected earlier Wednesday — included provisions requiring immigration officers to wear identification and body cameras, boosting training standards and restricting enforcement in sensitive locations.
The full slate of immigration enforcement changes sought by Democrats is not clear.
The Senate's top Democrat, Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, has called the counteroffer a "reasonable, good-faith proposal" that included reforms sought by the party for months. Senate Majority Leader John Thune, a South Dakota Republican, said the proposal was "not even close to being real," and included nine demands, some of which were "nonstarters."
